Stable, hotjoin capable and doesn't require restarting the game before joining a match. Stellaris is pretty much what Multiplayer in CK2/EU4 should have been. Multiplayer also works across Macs/Windows/Linux machines. I haven't encountered any OOS or dropouts.
Even Ironman games can be played in MP although I don't know if achievements are disabled. You can't join an SP game however all the host has to do is save the game and relaunch it as an MP game. Hot join works which allows players to join an MP game midway through. The host (and other players I think) can save the game at any time and resume the game. The speed is often reduced during major wars to give everyone enough time to micro. Im not at war with anyone so I look at who is attacking me and they are men belonging to my sons duchy-rank region which I gave to him. Games are usually played on normal or fast. Im super new to the game and I have no idea why there are so many armies in my realm trying to siege against my cities and pillage them.
